Soda Cracker Treat…

I love Weird Recipes and this one is weird to me because soda crackers are the base and not a pastry.  This is the perfect sickly sweet and salty combination.

Soda Cracker Treat

1 cup Butter

1 cup Brown Sugar

1 small pkg Chocolate Chips

1 sleeve of Soda Crackers

1 cup Chopped Nuts (Optional)

Cover a cookie sheet with aluminium foil. Spray with cooking spray. Line up soda crackers until pan is covered.  Evenly spread nuts over soda crackers

Boil Butter and Brown sugar at low rolling temperature for 5 minutes. Don’t stop stirring.

Spread over nuts and soda crackers.

Bake 5-7 minutes at 350 f

Remove from oven and sprinkle bag of chocolate chips on top.

Bake 2 minutes at 350 f

Spread the chocolate chips with a knife.

Cool in fridge, I prefer to do that for 20 minutes then transfer to freezer for 20 minutes.

Remove and break into pieces.

I am not going to lie about this recipe. I have screwed it up before. Once, I used margarine instead of butter. I have also overcooked it and ended up with a tray of burnt Soda Cracker Treats. You can also experiment and try different nuts, or no nuts at all. I also know people that use graham crackers instead of Soda Crackers, but that is not as weird to me, so I don’t do that version. I have also seen it look much prettier and uglier.  To each their own.

I grew up having this recipe only at Christmas in Manitoba. Over the years, I had completely forgotten about it until my group of girlfriends from Calgary started obsessively talking about something called Christmas Crack.
