I Am Not Rosie O’Donnell…

Many years ago, my friends little sister was watching The Rosie O’Donnell show and thought she was watching me on t.v.

I was 21 at the time and mortified.

Instead my friend and I laughed about it.

Of course it was funny.

I was being compared to a fat woman on t.v.

That is hilarious.

Isn’t it?

This wasn’t anything new for me.  I was used to being called names of fat women that were on t.v. Natalie from Facts of Life.  Roseanne Barr from Roseanne. Oprah from well, Oprah.  Jann Arden. And Rita MacNeil.

Still hilarious, right?

I was hurt that her six year old sister saw me as fat.

And to me fat meant you were a loud mouth.

Which I was.

Which I didn’t like.

Which I am okay with now.

Want to know why?

Because last night I was reminded of my shame of being compared to Rosie O’Donnell.

I was reminded because, by fluke, I watched Rebel Wilson star in her very own t.v show called, Super Fun Night.

I know it shouldn’t be about the fat.

I know it should be about her talent.

But, for me it was about her fat.

I wondered to myself, “Would 20 year old Kyla be embarrassed to be compared to Rebel Wilson?”

She might have been.

But, not me.

Thanks Rebel.

Thanks Rosie O’Donnell.

Thanks Oprah.

Thanks Rita MacNeil.

Thanks Roseanne.

Thanks Jann Arden

Thanks Natalie, from Facts of Life.

Thanks for being on my t.v.
